Autumn colours and misty mornings

During October, we start to see the first colours of autumn as well as those beautiful misty mornings. We will endeavour to make the very best of the morning and evening light during the photo tour of the Dolomites.

You will be taken to some of the very best photo locations such as the Alpe di Siusi and Santa Maddelena but I’ll also lead you to explore lesser-known hidden gems, so you can photograph a wide array of classic landscape imagery, from breathtaking landscapes and vineyards to lifestyle and close-up photography.

Winter tours

The photo opportunities in the winter months up in the Dolomites include images of high jagged mountains, frozen lakes, and frozen forests full of snow.

During January, we will have snow-covered mountains and stunning mountain valleys all out our fingertips. We will endeavour to make the very best of the morning and evening light during the photo tour.

You will be taken to some of the very best photo locations and also lead you to explore lesser-known spots, so you can photograph a wide array of classic landscape imagery, from breathtaking landscapes to stunning jagged mountains.

High mountain views

We will use one or two cable cars to get us up high to photograph some of the mountain vistas. These average around 20€ or 30€ for a return trip and are included in the fee. I can assure you that the views are incredible and well worth the ride up.

Our stay is based in four-star and three-star hotel accommodations. The hotels provide us with breakfast in the morning.

FAQs
Why choose a Dolomites Photo Tour with me?

Having photographed the Dolomites since 2016, I have built up an extensive knowledge of the area. My Dolomites photo tours will help you capture stunning images of this beautiful area of northern Italy.

We’ll explore two different areas of the Dolomites. The first part of the photography tour centres around the Val Gardena and Val di Funes areas. These offer classic views of the Dolomites that we are all familiar with.

The second part of my Dolomites photo tour will take us to the Cortina d’Ampezzo area, which is much more rugged and mountainous.

What is the experience of the photography tour leader accompanying the tour?

I have been a professional travel photographer since late 2010. Having travelled in 40 countries and counting I have extensive experience of the genre in a variety of situations.

You’re in good hands and I’m here to help you get the most out of your photo tour of the Dolomites.

When is the best time of year to visit the Dolomites for photography?

My own opinion is that the Dolomites are fantastic all year round. For any photographer who loves stunning landscapes and mountains then you won’t go far wrong in this area of northern Italy.

In winter, you can expect to see snow in the Dolomites covering the high ground, and if you’re lucky, it’ll be lower down too.

Autumn is great for the colours in the larch trees, which carpet the valley floors with their hues of gold and yellow.

Summer in the Dolomites is known for the masses of wildflowers. And lastly, Spring will see snow still on the high ground but the greens in the meadows will be lush and saturated.

Will we visit iconic sites like Lago di Braies, Santa Maddelena etc?

With each of my Dolomites photography tours, I aim to get you capturing both the well-known places such as Lago di Braies and Santa Maddelena.

There are many, and too many, iconic sites to list here but each year I try to vary the itinerary so that you see different things.

The group size will affect where we can go due to the narrow roads on some parts of the Dolomites.

Will there be opportunities for sunrise and sunset photography?

Where the weather conditions are good, then yes, we will be up for sunrise or out for sunset photo shoots.

Every day the weather is checked and re-checked to ensure that if we are going to be up early to capture sunruse or out until the end of the day that we’ll get the light we’re looking for.

What kind of camera equipment should I bring for a Dolomites photography tour?

On a Dolomites photography tour you could quite happily have two lenses with you and capture everything you see.

Ideally, if you had the 24-105mm and a 100-400mm focal lengths, then you wouldn’t struggle to be capturing images. Very rarely do I go wider than 24mm and I don’t think I’ve ever gone beyond 400mm.

Outside of this, a good sturdy tripod will serve you well if shooting the landscape and sunrise or sunset.

Are accommodations and meals provided, and what type of food can I expect?

All of your accommodation and breakfasts are provided on my Dolomites photography tours. Lunches and dinners are at your own expense.

Personally, I am a vegetarian and have never experienced any issues with eating in Italy.

You can expect a variety of foods depending on where you are in Italy. Each region has its own specialities so you’ll be getting the chance to eat a huge variety of dishes if you wish.

All accommodation is provided on a single occupancy basis so you won’t be sharing with a stranger or be paying extra just because you’re solo traveler. Unlike other companies, I don’t charge a single supplement. The price you see is the price you pay.

Do the tours include transportation between photography locations?

From the time of your arrival to the time of your departure, all of your transportation during the Dolomites photo tour will be taken care of.

I will pick you up at the airport and transport you to the first hotel and upon departure to so you can have no worries about getting to and from where we are staying.

How physically demanding are the tours? Will we be hiking or trekking?

There are no strenuous walks during the Dolomites photography tour, so you don’t have to be supremely fit to join.

Can I participate if I’m a beginner, or are the tours suitable only for advanced photographers?

All of my photo tours are open to beginners and advanced photographers alike.

Some people just want to be taken to a location and left to their own devices whereas some people want tuition when we are out. In either situation, I’m happy to help you where you need it.

The aim of my photography tours are to ensure you have a great time and go back home with images you can be proud of?

What should I pack for a photography tour in the Dolomites?

Packing for a photo tour of the Dolomites depends on when you are looking to go.

If you go to the Dolomites in the winter can see temperatures plunge well below freezing, so you need to ensure that you are equipped and ready for those freezing temperatures.

Whereas in October temperatures could be in the mid-teens or so, but you should also prepare yourself for some cold and chilly mornings.

Do I need a visa to enter Italy?

Before you visit any country it is your responsibility to check if you require a visa.

The European Union are looking to introduce a system similar to the ESTA that is used in the USA.

I'm ready to book, how do I book a spot?
